Netflix VAST validator guide
Short answer: Netflix sells a standard video ad programmatically in pre-roll and mid-roll, from 10 to 75 seconds, and describes that format as non-skippable. Validate the VAST document the deal returns. Codec, resolution, and file-type limits are on Netflix's creative specs page, which is the asset checklist beside the XML check.
Need a Netflix VAST validator?
Paste the tag URL from the deal, or the XML it returned. Then match the media file to the creative specs.
Quick reference
| Role | Publisher inventory, bought as a deal |
| Programmatic placements | Pre-roll and mid-roll |
| Duration | 10 to 75 seconds for the standard video ad |
| Skip | Described as non-skippable |
| Public version matrix | Not on the advertising pages used for this guide |
What Netflix publishes about the ad
Netflix's page for programmatic buyers says the standard video ad is available in both pre-roll and mid-roll, with durations from 10 to 75 seconds, and calls the format premium and non-skippable. The ad formats page adds pause ads, which it says appear after five seconds, and QR codes on both video ads and pause ads. A sponsorship package on that page includes a six-second bumper and a non-skippable pre-roll. Those are different products. Validate the tag for the product the deal actually bought.
The creative specs page is where Netflix says buyers will find file types, duration limits, and delivery specifications. This guide does not copy a bitrate ladder from that page, because the rendered specs are the checklist to match, and a DSP's eligibility check can be stricter than the publisher page. If the media file fails Netflix review, fix the asset there. If the VAST document is the failure, fix the XML here.
Validate the tag the deal returns
Netflix advertising says inventory for programmatic buyers is available through correctly configured deals. The tag host you paste may be a Netflix ads endpoint or a DSP wrapper in front of one. Follow the chain until the inline creative is the one assigned to the deal, then check duration against the 10 to 75 second range for the standard video ad, and check that a skip offset is absent when the buy is the non-skippable format.
The advertising pages used here do not publish a VAST version list, a wrapper-depth cap, or a VPAID statement. Do not invent one from a player guide. Read the creative specs for the file, and read the wrapper chain guide if a DSP or verification hop sits in front of the Netflix URL.
Pre-flight checklist
- The tag belongs to the deal, and the chain ends in that creative.
- Duration for a standard video ad falls between 10 and 75 seconds.
- A non-skippable buy has no skip offset.
- The media file matches the current Netflix creative specs.
- The resolved XML passes the validator.
